Xavier Greyling
On 18 May 2000, Xavier was admitted as “Attorney of this Court” in the Provincial Division of the High Court of South Africa, Grahamstown
the following track record (Jan 1998 – Feb 2001):
• Successful criminal appeal to High Court (Provincial Division);
• Unbeaten civil litigation record;
• Zero claims rejection: RAF;
• Increased debt collection from <50c on the Rand to >90c on the Rand
Xavier’s corporate career from 2001 to 2016 is characterized by initiatives aimed at improvement and the betterment of existing processes, procedures and systems to achieve greater operational efficiency. This includes embracing Technology. The need to adapt and ability to accommodate change is evident form constant career advancement. In the discipline of Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Xavier found his niche (culminating in the MCIPS accreditation) and accordingly he could live out his passions for:
• Solving problems and seeking solutions by looking at a “new way of doing things”. Challenge the status quo. Always strive and seek for something better, not by using the philosophy of “Thinking outside the box”, but rather “Think as if there is no box!”;
• Social interaction stimulated by negotiations. This ‘ability to speak’ has, apart from often landing him on the wrong side of the table as the truth is the only truth, supports his recognition as public speaker at world-class event. Repeatedly;
• Numbers, calculations and reporting thereon. This includes dissection, analysis and interpretation of the figures culminating in projections and recommendations;
• Project management, attention to detail and the ability to lead and keep projects (and people) to steer the course; and
• The written word by being the ‘go-to-person’ for contract drafting (and negotiations). Repeatedly he had noticed that the best commercial negotiations being on the verge of derailment by the introduction of legal advisors at a very late stage in the process to negotiate and argue on the use of this word or that word. The constant power struggle by the parties’ legal representatives was unacceptable. Not only did the legal representatives not have a firm grasp of the commercials, but they persisted in a methodology of ‘Us vs Them’ as opposed to searching for the ‘We’.
The onslaught of prejudices of discrimination again necessitated the need to adapt. In 2016, Xavier went into consulting, dispensing both legal advice on contract drafting as well as on principles of Procurement and Supply Chain Management. Until now, he has contributed positively to both the intellectual growth of the individuals he has come into contact with and to the financial growth of the entities where he served his short-term consulting tenures.
In short, Xavier is different: A qualified practicing attorney and seasoned procurement and SCM strategist that, with 20 plus years of commercial experience in negotiations, mediations, contract drafting and contract management, successfully integrated the two disciplines of legal and commercial resulting in a rare truly multi disciplined approach .
And, Xavier Jacques Greyling is ‘Unique’. It is plain, clear and easily noticeable.
It is right there in his name: Xavier!
He does bring the “X” -factor. Literally!
